Are you confused about the current privacy laws? How does the issue of privacy and confidentiality affect your library, its patrons, and your work? Would you like to know more about this important issue, but feel you never have enough time to wade through the complexities?
The Intellectual Freedom Panel of MLA is proud to offer a pre-conference program that will address all your concerns. It is called Privacy 101 and will be held on Wednesday, April 21st from 9:30-4:30.
This pre-conference features three speakers who are experts on the topic of privacy: David Rocah, a staff attorney for the ACLU of Maryland will speak on various aspects of privacy legislation (including the USA PATRIOT Act); Angela Maycock, Assistant Director, Office for Intellectual Freedom, American Library Association, will speak about ALA's new privacy initiative; and, back by popular demand, Dr. Carrie Gardner, Assistant Professor, Department of Library Science and Information Technology, Kutztown University will explore the "nitty-gritty" of privacy as it pertains to everyday library work.
The day will begin with the speakers' presentations and will end with a forum discussion addressing questions posed by the audience.
This preconference is designed to benefit library staff and administrators. Come join us and walk away with a clearer understanding about how you can ensure privacy for your patrons, yourself and your library.
This program is worth 5.5 contact hours of continuing education.
